On Friday the Quakes picked three players from the SuperDraft consisting of college players. With the 2nd pick (1st round) the team selected midfielder Siad Haji on Virginia Commonwealth University. Haji is a member of the 2019 Generation adidas class, which is comprised of players signed to MLS contracts before the SuperDraft and do not count against MLS teams’ salary budget.
The Quakes also picked two more players in the 2nd round from Friday’s draft. Midfielder Sergio Rivas of Seattle University was picked 26th while forward Mamadi Camara from Simon Fraser University (British Columbia, Canada) was selected 46th with that pick acquired from the Red Bulls.
Rounds 3 and 4 will be conducted on Monday January 14 at 10 AM Pacific Time via conference call.
In local news three players from Northern California universities were selected by other teams. San Francisco Glens defenders Sam Junqua (California) was picked 8th (1st round) by Houston and Roy Boateng (UC Davis) 16th (1st round) by the New York Red Bulls. Quakes Academy alum and midfielder Amir Bashti (Stanford) was selected by MLS Cup Champions Atlanta United 48th (2nd round).
