Quakes v FC Dallas

Our report is coming soon.

Update 4/28 our take is up:

For the first time since March 7, 2020 fans were welcomed back into Earthquakes Stadium, which finally got a naming rights sponsor with PayPal.  At the newly christened PayPal Park the 3000 or so fans were treated to an entertaining match which did not disappoint.

The Quakes scored first with a penalty kick goal from Oswaldo Alanis before the end of the first half.  Cristian Espinoza increased the tally in the 49th minute with an assist from 17 year old Cade Cowell–who 10 minutes later provided a strike goal to put the game out of reach.  Ricard Pepi of FC Dallas put FC Dallas on the board in the 79th minute but the home team was able to hold on for a 3-1 win.  The only blemish on the match was Chris Wondolowski coming in as a sub in the 72nd minute for Carlos Fierro, only to be booked 17 minutes later.  Another highlight was Fierro making a first half defensive save that prevented a Dallas goal. After 13 months the attendance of a few thousand sounded like a sellout of 18,000.

For his effort in the match Cade Cowell was named to the MLS Team of the Week and is the youngest to be honored at the age of 17.
