Bay FC returned home for a two game series with the first against the Portland Thorns. Once again the team fell behind as Payton Linnehan opened up the scoring for the visitors with her goal in the second minute. The team had to play catch up again this time with a goal from Sophia Smith five minutes later to give the Thorns a 2-0 lead.
However it was another comeback from the home team thanks to a late first half goal from Rachel Kundananji in the 41st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Deyna Castellanos once again provided the offensive spark to draw the team even at 2-2 in the 60th minute. Unfortunately it was Smith playing spoiler with her brace as she scored the game winning goal in the 70th minute to give the Thorns the 3-2 win. The loss was Bay FC’s third consecutive defeat.
Both teams have a quick turnaround as Bay FC will host again, this time against Chicago Red Stars on Sunday May 5 at 5pm. Portland will return home to play against Washington on Saturday May 4 at 7pm.
