The Quakes and DC United squared off 29 years to the day of the Inaugural Game. While that match was at Spartan Stadium, the game was not without storylines with Bruce Arena coaching DC United on that day. This time at PayPal Park he was at the helm of the Quakes, then known as the Clash, and while he was on the losing end in 1996 with a 1-0 defeat fast forward to 2025 the result was different with a 6-1 drubbing of the visitors before a crowd of 14,196. Most of the goals were accrued in the first half with Chicho Arango opening up the tally in the 8th minute. Cristian Espinoza added to the tally with his penalty kick goal in the 20th minute, along with Amahl Pellegrino coming off the bench and scoring in the 90th minute.
However, it was Josef Martínez playing hat trick hero and showing shades of his Atlanta United days with goals in the 16th, 81st, and two minutes into the second half of stoppage time. Christian Benteke had the lone goal for DC United three minutes into the first half of stoppage time.
Next up for the Quakes is a road trip to Southern California to meet LAFC on Saturday April 12 at 7:30pm, while DC United returns home to host FC Cincinnati on the same day at 4:30pm.
