Joseph Paintsil of the Galaxy opened up the scoring for the visitors with his goal in the 37th minute and the team held on to the lead for the entire match. Dejan Joveljic added to the tally in the 72nd minute, while Mauricio Cuevas put the dagger with his stoppage time goal.

Breaking News

This past Monday the Quakes and Head Coach Luchi Gonzalez parted ways after a dismal showing to start the 2024 campaign with a 3 win 2 draw and 14 losses for the worst record in the league. While he led the team back to the playoffs last year with 10 wins 14 draws and 10 losses, the slow start to his second year beginning with three losses and their last win so far against LAFC at Levi’s Stadium it was most likely a collapse in Portland where they held to the lead, along with a four game losing streak as of June 23 that sealed his fate with the team ending his tenure as head coach. Ian Russell takes over as interim Quakes coach.

In other news Bay FC General Manager Lucy Rushton resigned from her post on the same day with the possibility that she will be returning to work on the men’s side, having worked at Reading FC in England in management. Her tenure here included assembling an expansion team from scratch in under a year. While she was able to acquire talent to begin play in a short amount of time there was the possibility of taking as of now an undisclosed job so there was no indication that her job was in jeopardy. Technical Director Matt Potter will take over as General Manager at least for the rest of the season.

Our friends at Soccer Bay Area has their take on what happened on both ends.

The game was scoreless until the 89th minute when Kate Del Fava scored the only tally in the 89th minute.  Bay FC had chances to put the ball on the net but a potential goal from Racheal Kundananji four minutes earlier was called offside.  In the first match between two expansion teams it was Utah that ended up getting the victory.

In the San Francisco Derby at Skyline College, both USL League Two teams resumed their hostilities in a major rivalry match.  This time it was the club from the city limits stealing a road win at San Bruno.
